To an outsider, Rugby can appear to be a sleepy former market town. Situated on the River Avon, in the heart of Warwickshire, Rugby does however have many claims to fame:
- It is said to be the birthplace of the game of Rugby Football
- It is the home of one of England’s oldest, finest and most prestigious public schools
- The first British jet engine was designed in Rugby by Frank Whittle in the 1930′s
But what does today’s modern town of Rugby have to offer to it’s residents and the people who work there?
Rugby has changed over the years but it still manages to retain it’s ‘traditional market town’ feel. It is a very pedestrian friendly town and boasts a good range of shops, restaurants and night life. The imposing buildings of Rugby School at the end of the high street confirm the town’s proud traditions.
The town has excellent leisure facilities with a comprehensive range of sports clubs, social clubs, parks and open spaces as well as the renowned Caldecott Park and Draycote Water a short distance away.
There is an Art Gallery and Museum in the town as well as the Webb Ellis Museum of Rugby Football.
