Logistics and transport keeps the UK economy on the move. As a sector, it employs 2.3 million people who deliver goods and services, as well as moving people around the country. It is, above all, an industry that has high expectations of those working in it, requiring dedication and commitment, as specialist logistics recruiters BiS-Henderson will always remind candidates.
If ever proof was needed that the logistics industry is moving with the times, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) came up with a shining example recently. Announcing the finalists’ shortlist for its Young Manager of the Year Award, for the first time ever this year’s shortlist is made up entirely of women.
“We are increasingly seeing greater involvement from women at all levels,” CILT chief executive Steve Agg explains. This can be seen, he added in warehouses; behind the wheels of buses and trucks; among engineers: logisticians as well as transport managers, trainers, not forgetting the boardroom, where there are some outstanding women directors. “Now, to our delight, we find that the shortlist for the CILT Young Manager of the Year Award is entirely made up of women.”
Recruitment specialists BiS-Henderson know that the days of transport’s ‘dust and diesel’ image are well and truly over. Modern businesses, too, have higher expectations of their supply side and see beyond the stereotypes.
So the three shortlisted young managers who will attend the CILT gala dinner in October are: Rachel Beeken, General Manager, Gist Ltd; Lucy Parker, Operations Manager, DHL Supply Chain – NonFood Retail and Zoe Pickering, Training and Recruitment Manager, Eddie Stobart Ltd.
As he prepares to hand over the award to the winner on October 20, Agg adds:“I very much hope that this will serve as an example and stimulus to women already working in our industry, and to those who aspire to successful future careers with us. There are exciting and rewarding opportunities for females in this sector. In the future we look forward to recruiting and welcoming increasing numbers of ambitious and talented women.” As do specialist supply chain and logistics recruitment agencies like BiS-Henderson.
