Multimodal is now over for another year, and what a fantastic event it was for Bis Henderson Group. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who visited our stand, and helped make the show such a success! It was a fantastic opportunity to meet with faces old and new, as well as allowing us to showcase all four of our divisions and how we can support your business.
‘Attracting Talent’
On day one of Multimodal Our CEO, Andy Kaye, joined other members of Think Logistics in the Dunlop room to discuss ‘Attracting Talent’ into the profession, and the roles that employers must play in improving the popularity of the logistics, supply chain and transport sectors.
With the expectation that we will need over 1.2 million more employees in the logistics sector by 2022, logistics firms and their education advisors are now targeting children as young as 14 in an attempt to create more interest.
Andy states:
“Around 25-33% of employees are nearing retirement age. The way we manage our lives now means that logistics and supply chains support the growth of the wider economy. But how do we get people to understand that? This sector has done very, very little to attract new talent into the industry.”
The panel and audience recognised the opportunities that could be provided by the Apprenticeship Levy and trusts such as NOVUS and Career Ready, but urged all businesses to create relationships with their local schools and colleges. By going into schools and talking openly with young people we can hope to educate them about the role of logistics and to help them to understand the business of the supply chain.
